Not Great August 12, 2010 E M Kay I've had the monitor for about a week and I regret getting it. I only just started endurance running so I didn't bother buying one of those expensive HRM's. But after buying the Oregon Scientific my suggestion is if your going to get a HRM, just go for a good one. The strap doesn't pick up my heart rate easily and when it does the reading is either too high or too low to be accurate. I have to adjust the strap every time it loses the signal which is a real pain when I'm trying to run. Sometimes the readings jump around from high to low heart rate, so I know it's wrong. Also, the watch is really uncomfortable - it presses against my wrist bone when. During a run I sometimes don't even bother dealing with it and just end up using the timer. Every once in a while I get a good reading while I'm running but I'll be lucky if it stays. However this is what I expected for the price.
Great HRM for the price August 17, 2009 mmjf9696 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is a really good deal. I paid $30.00 for it and it does more than most $100.00 HRM's. There are a couple of things that the manual doesn't tell you about that other people have complained about. Let me start with the HR alerts they will not alert you until you have started the stop watch part. Once you have done this it works great. Next the year and height part. This is set in a loop it will start at 1983 and 5 feet 7 inches. Keep hitting the plus button if you need a year or height below the starting number it will loop around so you can get to the one you want. The only thing I wish it did was saved you max HR for that workout. It will give you %, avg, and current. This is more than enough for $30.00. Also the vibration alert is the best thing ever you can feel it when running, road biking, and even mountain biking. So far I am happy with this and it should sever me well until I can get a Garmin Forerunner 405.
USELESS AND WORTHLESS June 10, 2008 Baivab Mitra (Jersey City, NJ) 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
You may look at my other reviews and determine I hardly ever gave 1 star for a product. But this is really the worst product I've encountered in a long time. Let's look at the features first. It comes with a chest strap and a watch. Transmission is from the strap to the watch wirelessly. The watch has time (12/24 format), chrono, alarm, heart-rate monitoring. Now the fun part - it also requires you to enter the user data, in the form of gender, age, height and weight. Based on the values - it tells you your fitness level and keeps track of it, by monitoring your high/low heart rate. Great - isn't it? No wait .. the age STARTS from 1983! The height starts from 5'7". There's only a "+" sign, means you can not go low. The instructions can be thrown down the drain, for you'll require your own brain cells to figure out how to work with this one. Then the heart rate depending on the user data you provided (I believe that's the case, or maybe the nicompoof who designed this made this also default) starts with the LOWER value at 143! Amazing. So effectively, if you happen to be born before 1983 - you can't use the product. I guess the same nicompoof who designed this product thought best that all folks born before 1983 are good to die (maybe) or they are genetically healthy?
Unreliable, inaccurate and they won't stand behind it May 22, 2008 N. Hyman (Bend, OR, USA) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Where to begin? Setup is long and complicated and irrelevant. Heart rate readings go all over the map and are different from what you get when you check your pulse manually. The calories-burned number is based on heart rate and elapsed time, and is the same for a 100-lb woman and a 200-lb man. The unit is unreliable. Half of he functions in mine stopped working in the first month. Later when I changed batteries, I could no longer enter any data: not time of day, nor fitness level - zip. A call to the Oregon Scientific customer service line was a waste of time. Their response: "Prove you had it for less than a year, and we'll exchange it (you pay shipping both ways), otherwise, go pound sand." Bottom line: this is junk, and Oregon Scientific won't stand behind it.
Very poor customer support February 21, 2008 A teacher man 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I would strongly recommend against buying any Oregon Scientific product if you think there is the smallest chance that you might need cusomter support. I've been waiting more than two months for part of an item I bought. After five e-mails and a phone call to customer support, I still don't have the item, and without it, I can't use my heart monitor. I would never buy an Oregon Scientific product again.
