A little Disappointed July 20, 2010 Tee I got the book and started reading right away. It does contain a lot of information that was helpful. Although it listed the foods to eat and not eat, I felt it should have given a sample menu to use as a guide. I really felt the discription was not accurate enough, had it been, I may or may not have made the purchase.
Very helpful overview July 16, 2010 C. Picklo (CT) I found this book very helpful and reaffirming that my vague tired-type of symptoms were not all in my head. Anyone who has been in a stressful job/situation for any length of time should read this, if for no reason but to know the warning signs. The questions that he takes you through do a good job of assessing your situation and level of adrenal fatigue.
A very good self help book July 9, 2010 Nbpt (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In 1998 Dr. Wilson coined the term "ADRENAL FATIGUE" (AF) to identify a group of signs and symptoms people experience resulting from poor adrenal function. As a leading expert on this topic, Dr. Wilson decided to write this book after observing a growing frequency of AF while the medical establishment greatly ignored it. This book is written as a self help book but a professional may benefit from observing his approach, knowledge and experience. Comprehensive and often simple tools are described to evaluate the state of one's adrenal glands. The book provides a clear and often detailed guide to recovery that includes lifestyle, diet, and nutrition. He talks about the stages and frequent patterns experienced with AF. Finally he goes into the biology of the adrenals and related systems giving the reader additional perspective.
This is a very good introductory book for anyone who suspects poorly functioning adrenals or just wants to avoid future issues. It provides clear guidance using his approach. Although written as a self help book, some of the nutritional, herbal and glandular supplementation lack adequate detail for self help. In these cases he refers you to seek a knowledgeable professional for guidance. There are several minor disappointments regarding supplementation that I thought would have been updated by the 13th printing. He suggests the use of adrenal glandulars but does not indicate what type, the whole glandular, or the cortex (the outer portion). It has been learned that people with AF taking the whole glandular may get heart palpitations or a racing heart. This is believed to be caused by the adrenalin present in whole glandular products. The cortex glandular does not contain adrenalin but still has many other hormones including the much needed cortisol. The other disappointment is no distinction is made between unrefined and refined sea salts. Refined sea salts are white in color and contains bleaches, anti-caking agent such as aluminium silicate or sodium prussiate and may even contain white sugar. Due to processing, some or all of the minerals are depleted. Unrefined sea salt is off white in color and contains all of the trace minerals available without any additives. Despite this detail and not being a perfect self help book, it is still a very good book on a very important topic. I have learned and applied many ideas from this book to my benefit. I am glad I have it in my library and from time to time go back to it for a reference. I respect Dr. Wilson for his trailblazing work and the fact that he does not push his line of supplements in the book. Since this has been published other books on this topic have come on the market. A newer book that complements this one is "Stop the Thyroid Madness" by Janie Bowthorpe. It's has a lot of usefull information on adrenals. For more information on Dr. Wilson and this topic go to his website.
A must have! July 4, 2010 Avni Tumay (Kings Park, Victoria, AU) Fantastic book covers all of the area's with a basic understanding approach, some parts covered in detail. I certainly found my feet in the road to success in recovering and I recommend this book to everyone as a natural way of curing your precious adrenal glands.
Adrenal Gland Dysfunction book June 5, 2010 S. McGwin I ordered this book because I took a hormonal saliva test and found out my progesterone level was really low and I have a severe case of adrenal gland dysfunction. So, I wanted to learn further about the adrenal gland dysfunction myself. I am still in the progress of reading this book along with some others. So, far it has been very informative. It has given education you can not get from your doctor. I also wanted to know how to help myself recover from this and get back on the right track. I had previously kinda figured out how I got it, but this helps you pin point it more directly to things from your past life experiences. I would recommend anyone to purchase this book for themselves. The book actually says a lot more people have this and are not aware of it. They just think they are tired and don't know why. So, order the book and find out for yourselves if you have the adrenal gland dysfunction.
